Cafes, Tearooms & Snack Bars around Whitchurch-on-Thames

The Garden Cafe

14 Whitchurch Rd, Pangbourne, Reading RG8 7BP, UK – 0118 984 1114

The Garden Cafe is unique, its small, it's quiet, its family run, friendly and it has excellent wifi. Add to that a large menu of home made food, including vegan and waistline expanding cakes. This makes it my go to place for a scene change, out of the office space to work from. Refreshingly, the staff actually talk to you, can switch baked potato or panini fillings around to suit and make a wicked home made soup. Am I a fan, err yes, I'm here most weeks and what really makes it for me is the atmosphere. Its a great slow relaxed calm vibe spot, so rare to find a great indie cafe these days

Awesome food, great staff and service and a lovely setting

Café St Louis

3-5 Reading Rd, Pangbourne, Reading RG8 7LR, UK – 0118 984 2246

Such a lovely atmosphere with very friendly staff. I had the Eggs Florentine which was absolutely delicious.

Good food: we had a light lunch with decent club sandwich, full vegetarian breakfast and a salmon and poached eggs on muffin. Eggs very well cooked and all enjoyed. Nice decor. Service wasn't particularly fast as there weren't many in the cafe when we arrived. A small warning to hungry people the menu says 2 muffins but it's actually 1 muffin cut into 2 halves.

The Village Café

9, The Arcade, 9 High St, Goring, Reading RG8 9AY, UK – 01491 874264

Came here with that family for a very very busy geocaching meet up to celebrate Australia Day, of all things. We had coffee and a selection of cakes. Everything was delicious. Yum!

Fantastic food. Great coffee cake. Steady pace of people.

the Plaice

6 Wood Green, Woodcote, Reading RG8 0QQ, UK – 01491 681496

Great quality, good service but I would use far more often if they did half portions, I am sure many pensioners or unwell people feel like me.

Great fish and chips. Tasty and not too fatty. Very big portions

The Swan in Pangbourne

Shooters Hill, Pangbourne, Reading RG8 7DU, UK – 0118 984 4494

Went on Fathers Day. Very busy. Staff were courteous and friendly throughout. My gluten free needs were dealt with by being given an allergy guide which after studying was reasonably easy to follow. Gin and tonics arrived without gin but that was quickly rectified! Service was quite slow but probably due to volume. Menu range reasonable for a bill of £100 for 3 including 1 main course each, drinks and coffee

Lovely pub. Lovely terrace outside, by the river. Havent tried the food personally - but received positive feedback from friends. Lovely selection of drinks. Atmosphere is fantastic and friendly - this place feels like a friends gathering all the time. The only potential issue is parking which is a bit limited.

The Bull At Streatley

Streatley, Reading RG8 9JJ, UK – 01491 872392

Really nice rooms and comfy beds, the food in the restaurant was really nice and tasty too. We made a mistake with our booking but they were more than happy to amend it. Very friendly staff. Definitely recommend.

Nice cosy pub. Big rear beer garden. Comfortable friendly. Only thing against the pub is the bar food service. Just need to pay attention to the orders and service. Apart from that worth a quiet beer in a relaxing atmosphere

The John Barleycorn

Manor Rd, Goring, Reading RG8 9DR, UK – 01491 872509

A good unfussy pub, traditional pub memorabilia on show. Popped in for a meal for two and the food service was very quick and hot, simple pub food served well and about right for the price. Traditional billiards table and plenty of nooks and crannies to hide in if you wish. The bar is kept separate from the restaurant and dogs are allowed in the bar. Brakespear on tap with a couple of guest ales on tap. For my tastes I'd say the Catherine Wheel up the road is slightly better, but there are a couple of locals in the bar to suggest many will enjoy this pub.

Every time we are in Goring it has become the place for a good pint. Pleasant outside area weather permitting. Inside when the weather is less desirable a lovely old fashioned pub,may it never change.

Chinese Takeaways

Chef King

3-4 The Arcade, High St, Goring, Reading RG8 9AY, UK – 01491 872485

Good food, excellent service, pretty tables, clean, and wide variety. We ate chicken with chili and basil, chicken with spring onions and ginger, fried rice and spring rolls. There were 8 or so types offried rice and even more types of noodles. £7-8 per "Mains." There were lots of customers for take away orders while we were there.

so so good, I love this Chinese restaurant, 100% will coming back :)

Indian Takeaways

Masoom’s Tandoori

The Laurels, High St, Goring, Reading RG8 9AT, UK – 01491 875078

An excellent Indian with huge portions. We booked a table on a bank holiday weekend, and we were glad we did as it is obviously a popular place, with good reason. The food is wonderful and will cater for most tastes, but I would recommend you share things like the rice and the sides as the portions were huge and two of us struggled to finish. The poppadoms and dips are lovely and fresh and perhaps enough of a starter for all but the most hungry. Excellent value too, £35 for two, with beers, poppadoms, sides and mains.

Great food, nice service. You also get a lot of food, and the portions are flavoured, seasoned and cooked to a high standard. The chicken is melt in the mouth, and that's not an exaggeration by any means. Nans fresh and light, great texture.

Takeaway Food

Nino's Trattoria Italiana

11 Reading Rd, Pangbourne, Reading RG8 7LR, UK – 0118 984 1333

Lovely welcoming restaurant with lovely home cooked food. A varied selection and polished off with a nice little shot of limoncello. A perfect evening.

The place is nice and clean. The waiters are very busy and very friendly. The food is fresh and well made, but it lacks spices and herbs. With it it would have had something special. Really annoying was to see the (probably) owner's wife slanging the waiters. Especially the female waiter was bitched at, althought she did a wonderful job and was just charming. The owner's wife seemed to ruin the otherwise lovely environment for the staff. The prices are ok, a little bit higher than average, but the restaurant is a little bit fancy. So it's ok.
